For three decades, these 40 exceptional DC singers have ignited audiences with their gospel music, carrying on a tradition of joy and inspiration. Led by the visionary Artistic Director Michele Fowlin, COTG offers more than just musical excellence; it provides a haven for young talent, fosters positive development, and creates unforgettable experiences.
From Humble Beginnings to National Stages:
Founded in 1993, COTG aimed to give DC children a platform to share their gospel passion beyond church walls. Today, these dedicated young singers (ages 9-18) rigorously hone their skills through auditions, practice sessions, and renowned performances.
Unforgettable Opportunities:
COTG boasts a prestigious resume, having graced stages like the White House and shared their vibrant energy with renowned gospel artists like Richard Smallwood and Yolanda Adams. These experiences go beyond music, instilling valuable life lessons in discipline, teamwork, communication, and self-confidence.
A Legacy of Empowerment:
Fowlin, who has led COTG for 18 years, reflects on the choir's impact. Former members, inspired by their experiences, now bring their own children to join the legacy. She emphasizes the transformative power of COTG: "They found their voice, literally, and who they were as individuals."
Celebrating 30 Years and Looking Ahead:
COTG's 30th-anniversary season is packed with exciting concerts, including a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Kennedy Center. As Fowlin says, "We have to keep moving with the times," incorporating themes like musical theater and social justice into their repertoire. Their mission remains constant: spreading the timeless message of love, hope, and encouragement through the power of young voices.
