Big news for D.C. foodies! The James Beard Awards, often referred to as the "Oscars of Food," revealed their nominees today, and our local culinary scene is well-represented.
This year's showing is particularly impressive, with nominations spanning both regional and national categories. Here are some of the highlights:
-
National Recognition: Leading the charge is Hollis Wells Silverman, the mastermind behind restaurant group Eastern Point Collective (which includes The Duck and the Peach, La Collina, and The Wells). Silverman is a contender for the prestigious Outstanding Restaurateur award. We also see Susan Bae of Moon Rabbit up for Outstanding Pastry Chef, and Tail Up Goat in the running for Outstanding Wine and Other Beverages Program.
-
Rising Stars: Last year, Masako Morishita brought new life to Adams Morgan's beloved Perry's, and her talent is being recognized on a national scale. Morishita is a nominee in the Emerging Chef category.
-
Chef Showcase: D.C. boasts several contenders in the Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic category. Michael Rafidi of Albi, who was nominated for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic last year, steps up to the national Outstanding Chef category this time around. New additions to the Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic list include Tony Conte (Inferno Pizzeria Napoletana), Kevin Tien (Moon Rabbit), and Harley Peet (Bas Rouge).
The full list of nominees can be found here. Winners will be announced on June 10th at a ceremony in Chicago.
