Craving breakfast tacos and top-notch margaritas? Head to Mount Pleasant’s beloved La Tejana, because they’ve just added a brand new upstairs cocktail bar!
Austin Vibes and Classic Tex-Mex Fare
Inspired by co-owner Ana-Maria Jaramillo's Austin days, the new bar aims to recreate that perfect after-work hangout spot. Expect a relaxed atmosphere with chips, loaded queso, and of course, delicious margaritas – just the thing for catching up with friends and unwinding.
Margaritas for Every Mood
Margarita fans rejoice! La Tejana’s got you covered. Their menu boasts classic frozen and on-the-rocks margaritas, along with some creative options dreamt up by bar manager Jose Cox, who brings his experience from esteemed establishments like Albi and Oyamel. Try the refreshing strawberry margarita made with clarified Greek yogurt, or the unique “Nostalgia Naranja,” a play on Orange Fanta featuring house-made syrup and charred orange.
Beyond the Margarita
Looking for something different? La Tejana’s got you covered there too. Indulge in a playful riff on the espresso martini made with cold brew coffee and a special house-made syrup spiced with warm notes of cinnamon, star anise, and clove. Wine lovers can explore their four-glass natural wine selection, while beer drinkers can enjoy a classic Modelo or turn it into a "soup of the day" with a shot of tequila.
Tex-Mex Comfort Food You Crave
But it wouldn't be a true Tex-Mex cantina without some incredible food offerings! La Tejana doesn't disappoint. Dive into their famous loaded queso, a decadent tribute to the "Bob Armstrong dip" from Austin’s Matt’s El Rancho. This multi-layered masterpiece features La Tejana's refried beans, queso, guacamole, and melt-in-your-mouth brisket from local favorite 2Fifty BBQ.
Spice things up with their signature jalapeno poppers, a flavor explosion of cream cheese, Oaxaca cheese, cheddar, and a touch of smokiness. They’re served with a side of jalapeno ranch, inspired by the legendary version from Tex-Mex chain Chuy’s.
Taco Time!
While the breakfast tacos that La Tejana is famous for won't be available upstairs, fear not, taco lovers! They’ve got a special dinner taco on the menu that pays homage to a cult favorite from Jaramillo's hometown – the carne asada taco from Taco Palenque. This crowd-pleaser features handmade tortillas filled with refried beans, melted cheddar cheese, perfectly seasoned carne asada, a queso drizzle, and a refreshing pico de gallo salsa.
Ready to Make a Reservation?
The intimate upstairs bar seats about 20 people, with additional patio seating for another 20. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are recommended, especially on weekends. Reservations can be made up to two weeks in advance on Resy starting daily at 9 AM.
So what are you waiting for? Head to La Tejana and experience a taste of Texas right here in D.C.!
