Kau Kau: A Taste of Hawaii Comes to the DMV

The DMV area has seen a surge in poke shops in recent years, but Hawaiian comfort food has been somewhat underrepresented. That's where Kau Kau comes in. This new takeout-only ghost kitchen, launched by the team behind the popular TaKorean, offers a delicious array of classic Hawaiian plate lunches and dinners.

A Passion for Hawaiian Cuisine

TaKorean founder Mike Lenard's move to Hawaii a few years ago sparked his love for Hawaiian cuisine. Inspired by his wife's family heritage and the island's rich culinary traditions, Lenard decided to bring a taste of Hawaii back to the DMV.

Kau Kau: A Hawaiian Feast

Kau Kau, which means "food" or "to eat" in Hawaiian Pidgin, serves up authentic Hawaiian plate lunches that are sure to satisfy. Choose from a variety of proteins, including bulgogi, kalua pork, chicken teriyaki, grilled mahi mahi, hoisin-caramelized tofu, and the classic loco moco. Each plate comes with creamy mac salad, two scoops of white rice, and a side of iceberg lettuce salad.

Extra Sides and Catering Options

In addition to the main plates, Kau Kau offers a selection of delicious sides, such as Spam musubi, Korean-style cucumber salad, and lomi tomato salad. Catering options are also available, making Kau Kau perfect for parties, events, or simply feeding a large group.

Supporting Maui's Recovery

Kau Kau is committed to giving back to the Hawaiian community. A portion of the sales will go to Lahaina Strong, a nonprofit organization helping Maui residents rebuild after the devastating wildfires of last year.

Kau Kau is a welcome addition to the DMV food scene, offering a unique and authentic taste of Hawaiian cuisine. With its delicious plate lunches, generous portions, and commitment to giving back, Kau Kau is sure to become a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
